NYS Ag & Markets Scale Registration Day

  • Catskills Food Hub 92 Commerce Drive Liberty United States (map)

In preparation for the upcoming farmer’s market season, Catskills Food Hub will hold a group inspection for agricultural scales for farmers.

Farmers can drop their scales off between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on May 3, 6, or before 12 p.m. on the 7th to get their scale inspected by Robert Hessinger, Sullivan County director of Weights and Measures, on Tuesday the 7th.

Scale owners can then pick up their scales after 3 p.m. Tuesday during normal business hours. The inspection is free and scale owners do not need to be on site during inspection.

“Broadly speaking it is my responsibility as the director of weights and measures to ensure that fair practice or equity prevails in the market place,” Hessinger said. “Buyers and sellers need to receive or give full weights and measures. Weights and Measures enforcement protects the merchant, farmer, and seller from giving overweight as well as underweight product to the buyer. When weighing mistakes are made the seller can lose money by giving away more of his/her goods than he/she charges for, wiping out part of his legitimate profit. With that being said the bottom line is it’s the Law, that all commercial weighing devices be type approved, inspected and tested.”

Call ahead to schedule your drop-off time. The Hub is located at 92 Commerce Drive, Liberty NY. For more information please contact Cat Wilson, Executive Director, at 845.807.3735 or visit
